Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Karen Deegan
I am very happy to be part of the Queen of Martyrs School Family and look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know your children. I will be teaching music on Wednesdays to the students in PK3 through Grade 4 using a "Jesus" centered program. I plan to combine singing, theory, composers, instruments, rhythm and body movements to make the music experience fun as well as educational.
I am also the Director of Music at St. Louis de Montfort Parish in Oak Lawn where I can be found evenings and weekends playing and singing for their masses and directing their 3 singing and 4 handbell choirs. Being involved in church music has been my life long passion in order to share my gifts from God in making others want to sing and play for Him. I taught music for all grades until the school was closed by the Archdiocese in June 2017. My husband Jim and I have been married 16 years and between the 2 of us have 8 children; including our youngest daughter Kandi who is 15 years old; 8 grandchildren and two very spoiled furbabies; Max who is a Westie and Missy who is a Bichon.
I am a life long Southside Irish person having attended St. Gall School, Maria High School, DePaul University, the Liturgy Institue of Chicago and Dominican University. I am proficient on piano, organ and keyboards as well as most of the wind instruments. I encourage any students who are currently studying any instrument to let me know so we can do occasional "concerts" in class.
Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions, concerns or questions. I look forward to sharing a wonderful school year with all of you.
In my spare time, I love to read, crochet, scrapbook and occasionally sleep.
