Welcome to Queen of Martyrs School...Where Faith and Knowledge Meet!
Queen of Martyrs school enters into its 66th year of operation. It’s because of its dedicated community and loyal alumni that the school has remained educationally vibrant and productive for so many years. Today, community and alumni spirit remains alive and supportive as before. This, along with a dedicated faculty and staff will allow Queen of Martyrs to remain an educational icon in the Evergreen Park and Chicago Mt. Greenwood Communities for many years to come.
At Queen of Martyrs, we educate the whole child: mentally, physically and spiritually. In our Preschool through Eighth grade classes, children are engaged in academically challenging curricula. Highlights include the SuperKids Primary Reading Program in the early childhood classrooms, challenging math, language arts and schoolwide writing program, Accelerated Reader, and a rigorous high school prep program in junior high.
Factored into learning objectives are the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Bear in mind that the CCSS are not a curriculum but rather are a set of academic expectations that inform the way teaching takes place in schools. As such, at Queen of Martyrs we will go beyond the CCSS for English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Going beyond the standards of public schools has always been a hallmark of Catholic schools. In support of this goal, the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) has developed a set of teaching and learning standards for kindergarten through grade 8. Aligned with ACT College Readiness (CRS) strands, ASPIRE test standards and Common Core State Standards, the OCS K through 8 standards will guide Catholic School instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics to be broader, deeper and more rigorous than CCSS.
As we direct the implementation of the standards within the culture and context of our school curriculum, we will bear in mind the faith, principles, values and social justice themes inherent in the mission and Catholic Identity of Queen of Martyrs Catholic School. Moreover, morality, respect and camaraderie will be nurtured in all that we do as well.
